Having Down syndrome may present a series of developmental, learning and health challenges throughout a person’s life. It does not determine who that person is, as he or she will have unique abilities, skills, interests and personality. These key qualities will influence how they live their lives, along with family and community attitudes and support.
The Mission of DSAQ Inc is to build community awareness of Down syndrome and to support, advocate for and empower people with Down syndrome to take their rightful place as valuable and contributing members of their local and global community.

This year, DSAQ members held T4321 fundraising events as part of the World Down Syndrome Day celebrations. T4321 is an abbreviation of Tea for Trisomy 21. Trisomy 21, more commonly known as Down syndrome, refers to the presence of three copies of chromosome 21.
This year, the United Nations officially observed World Down Syndrome Day. Celebrations were held all over the world, including right here in Queensland.
DSAQ Members again welcomed in the New Year at the Brisbane New Year Ball held at the RNA Showgrounds. Thank you to the Ball Events Committee for providing free entry to our attendees. Thanks must also go to Colliers International for their sponsorship of our members by paying for the accommodation of the peer supporters.
Don't forget to put the 2012 Buddy Walk in your diaries! We'll be walking on Sunday, 21st of October. This is a great day out and we're all looking forward to it! We'll keep you updated with all the goss right here, so keep checking back.
The DSAQ Rockhampton Resource Space is located at the Endeavour Foundation Office on Alma Street. It houses a collection of library resources, which contain information about a range of topics including motor skills, communication, education and social development as well as general information about Down syndrome and books for children.
There is also a television for families and professionals to view informational DVDs on a range of topics; and an iPad to trial a range of apps including apps for behaviour, literacy, numeracy and the extremely popular Proloquo2go.
A range of education resources will also be available for visitors to look at and try including pencil grips, scissors, sensory toys, fine motor kits and our popular Primary Education Kit.
It is our hope that local families will use the DSAQ Resource Space as a place to connect, meet and share with other families and DSAQ.
With great thanks to the Endeavour Foundation and David Mills Lawyers for helping to make this happen.
